Pacific Coast Landscape Challenges

Genevieve Schmidt is a Landscape Designer living and working in the Pacific Northwest.  Her designs focus on low maintenance gardens that provide season long color, and the great testimonials given by her customers are proof that she’s succeeded in doing that!  Here, her challenges include harsh ocean winds and sandy soil.

Commercial Projects

This  commercial project  in McKinleyville, CA had not only hungry gophers as a challenge but also the strong and salty seacoast winds that were a constant threat to plants.

Flower Carpet Pink

A strong seacoast wind is no excuse for a colorful garden.  Here Genevieve mixed Flower Carpet roses with Mexican feather grass, heuchera, phormium grass and more.

This is a commercial landscape in a Tuscan style in McKinleyville, CA – two blocks away from the ocean.  Genevieve says “I love using the Flower Carpet roses in this setting because they have bold bright color throughout most of the year, are self-cleaning and require little care, and best of all they tolerate the sandy soil and harsh coastal winds right next to the ocean. ”

Residential Projects

This Eureka, CA home won a “Garden Jewels Award” from the Eureka Sequoia Garden Club. While the property is constantly in bloom, it requires only a little over an hour a week to stay looking nice.

This is what it looked like when Genevieve was called in, and just after planting. What tiny, baby plants!

And here’s what those plants look like three years later, with regular care and organic fertilizer to help them be their best.
