Low-maintenance solution to soften harsh lines

drought tolerant plants

The architectural design at Brio Coastal Bar & Kitchen at the Del Amo Fashion Mall in Torrance, CA is all square lines and flat surfaces.  But when the adjoining trough planters were filled with gently cascading Festival™ Burgundy cordyline interplanted with graceful agave, the look is fantastic!

Not only do these plants look great from the outside, but serve to break dinners’ view of the adjacent parking lot.

Once established, Festival™ cordyline stands up to drought and high heat and is low maintenance, needing only an occasional trimming of dead branches.

Unlike most cordylines, Festival is basal branching, forming multiple short stems spreading out from the base of the plant to create a sturdy low-growing grass plant, no more than 3 feet tall.  Their almost fountain-like habit make them ideal for planters.
